winter sports

27 kilometers of slopes, 23  lifts and lots of snow cannons and all that just 300 kilometers from  Utrecht. Winterberg is a nice ski resort, especially if you don't want to go too far  to drive  for a week(end) of your skiing. The apartments in Elpe are only 9 kilometers from  the  hitchhike  and so there you are!

The Wintersport Arena in Winterberg is the largest contiguous ski area in Winterberg. There are 23 lifts and 30 slopes in Winterberg. There are modern snow cannons on 19 slopes. Every season a lot is invested and last season too, ultramodern lifts were added. You can also ski in the evening because several slopes are illuminated.

Closer by are the smaller, but also very fine areas of FortFun Elpe (3km) and Bödefeld (5km). With the Sauerland ski pass you can use all these areas with one pass!

Cozy Winterberg

Not only the slopes and snow are great in Winterberg.

Every winter the town transforms into an atmospheric ski resort with many cafes, konditoreis,  restaurants and apres ski.

Central is the very cozy Christmas/winter market on the Marktplatz,

a scene with stalls, Christmas trees, snow and many thousands of lights. Whether you go for gluhwein, waffles with warm cherries, bratwurst, a round on the merry-go-round or are looking for a nice hat, the market has something to offer for everyone.

You can walk straight into the town from the slopes and parking is free.

Cheers!

Cross-country skiing

Anyone who wants to go cross-country skiing can also get started in Winterberg. Due to the high location, the trails in and around Winterberg are among the snowiest in the Sauerland. The trails are machine-tracked and in total there are 177 kilometers of trails (in and around Winterberg).

In Winterberg there are 4 starting points at the Kurpark and at the parking lots on the Kuhlenberg, Bremberg and Remmeswiese. In total, 11 different trails with a length of more than 50 kilometers start in Winterberg. All trails are free to use.

While cross-country skiing you can enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Winterberg.

winter hiking

Every winter a thick layer of snow transforms the hills of the Sauerland into a true fairytale landscape. You can of course experience that on a busy slope, but it is much more spectacular to discover it on foot, it seems as if you are alone in this winter wonderland.

In the Sauerlandse mountains there are many prepared winter hiking trails where you can walk with good shoes.

It becomes a bit more exciting with schneeschuhe, a kind of tennis racket under your shoes so that you do not sink and you can choose your own path through the deep snow. An amazing experience!

Bobsleigh and tobogganing

The Winterberg bobsleigh track is well worth a visit. It is one of the fastest courses in the world and championship races take place here in January. Both the best bobsleighers and tobogganers compete here.

You can also visit the course outside the winter sports season during a guided tour. You will then find out how the former natural bobsleigh rink evolved into the current artificial ice rink, which is now one of the most modern in the world. You will also learn how the enormous cooling system works and how records were made.

You can also experience the experience of a department yourself. It is possible to get in with an experienced pilot and go down at 130 km/h!

But the less daredevils can also whiz down the mountain with a sled on the adjacent toboggan run.
